Privacy & Cookies
Plain terms: what Aurefold collects, why, and how you stay in control.
Aurefold is a small promotional and reader-community site for the novel The Bell of Silence. We keep data collection to a minimum and set no non-essential cookies until you agree. You can change your mind at any time.
Cookies & your consent
When you first visit, a banner asks whether to allow cookies. Nothing that sets a non-essential cookie runs until you choose Accept:
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4). Anonymous, aggregated usage — which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and events like a book download. It runs in Google's Consent Mode with storage denied by default, so it sets no analytics cookies unless you accept.
- Reading-list form (MailerLite). If you accept, the email signup form on the Support page loads from MailerLite, which may set its own cookies. If you decline, the form simply isn't loaded.
Decline and Google Analytics stays cookieless and the email form isn't loaded — the rest of the site works exactly the same.
Community participation stored in your browser
Interactive Aurefold features use a small amount of browser local storage so the site can remember community choices on that browser without asking for a name or email. This is separate from Google Analytics cookies.
- A random browser identifier is used to enforce one anonymous voice per Moot question and to avoid counting the same House Test result repeatedly.
- Your local browser remembers which Ledger Questions you answered so the Moot can show your own participation record when you return.
- This local record is not a score, profile or public leaderboard, and it does not follow you to another browser or device.
Anonymous community milestones
When you actively take part in the community, Aurefold may store a limited anonymous milestone in Supabase: completing the House Test, casting a Ledger Question vote, having a signed-in Banner profile, or clicking through to Patreon. The record contains the random browser identifier, the type of milestone, a short context label and the Aurefold page where it happened.
It does not store your House Test answer sequence, the text of your Ledger argument, your Patreon account, whether you actually joined Patreon, or whether a Patreon membership is free or paid. Patreon clicks are treated only as an indication that a reader chose to open Patreon.
Information you choose to give
- Email address — only if you join the reading list. It's used to send Aurefold updates, and you can unsubscribe from any email at any time.
- Reader account / Banner profile — if you sign in, your account and the profile information you choose to save are stored by Supabase.
- Reviews — if you leave a rating or review of Book One, the optional name and text you enter are stored and shown publicly once approved.
- The Moot votes — votes are stored anonymously to tally results. Anonymous votes are not tied to a named reader account.
Who processes this data
- Google (Analytics) — usage measurement.
- MailerLite — reading-list email.
- Supabase — reader accounts, Moot votes, community milestones and Book One reviews.
- Patreon — only after you choose to open Patreon; Patreon handles its own account and membership data.
- GitHub Pages — hosts the site; server logs may record standard request data (such as IP addresses) as part of normal operation.
